Overview

## What This Service Is, and Who It Is For

### What it is
Choosing a boiler installer is a decision with consequences that outlast the invoice by ten or fifteen years: the manufacturer warranty depends on correct installation and registration, the notification of the work to Building Control depends on the installer's Gas Safe registration, and how well the system was commissioned decides your running costs for as long as you own the boiler. A good installer surveys before quoting, puts everything in writing, fits to the manufacturer's instructions rather than a shortcut, and hands over proper commissioning paperwork on the day.

### Who it is for
Homeowners replacing a failed or ageing boiler, anyone building an extension or renovating who needs the heating designed in from the start, landlords who need documented, compliant work for a rental property, and buyers who have inherited a boiler with no service history and want it properly assessed before relying on it through winter.

### When you need it
Ideally before your existing boiler fails completely, when you have time to get more than one quote and are not choosing under pressure with no heating. If it has already failed, the same checks still apply, just compressed into a shorter timeframe.

### Why it needs a registered engineer
Gas boiler installation is notifiable work restricted by law to Gas Safe registered engineers, and the difference between installers shows up in things you cannot see once the casing is back on: flue routing, pipe sizing, filter fitting, correct commissioning and combustion settings. Get those wrong and the fault might not surface for two or three years, by which point it is your problem, not the installer's.

The cost of leaving it

## What Happens If This Gets Left
The heating installation market has plenty of low-quality work hiding behind a shiny new boiler casing, and most of it is invisible until something goes wrong.

### Risks and escalating costs

- An installer who is not Gas Safe registered is committing a criminal offence by doing the work at all, and the installation itself is illegal and typically uninsurable.
- Warranty registration is often skipped or done incorrectly, which means a genuine manufacturer fault two years in gets refused because the paperwork trail does not exist.
- A boiler fitted without a magnetic filter or without cleansing the existing pipework often fails early from sludge contamination, and that failure is not covered under warranty because it is caused by installation, not manufacturing.
- Undersized or oversized boilers, chosen without a proper survey, either fail to heat the house adequately or short-cycle constantly, wearing components out years before they should.
- Verbal quotes that later grow with add-on charges for the flue, the filter, the controls, or making good, turn a competitive-looking price into the most expensive option once the invoice arrives.

### Mistakes we are called out to fix

- Choosing on price alone from a single verbal quote without seeing a written specification of exactly what is included.
- Not asking to see the installer's Gas Safe ID card, or not checking the specific boiler manufacturer accreditation where the installation is meant to carry an extended warranty.
- Assuming any boiler will fit in the same spot as the old one without checking flue routing meets current regulations, particularly near windows, boundaries and air bricks.
- Not asking who submits the Building Regulations notification and who gives you the certificate that proves it.
- Forgetting to ask what happens if something goes wrong during the installation itself, such as discovering asbestos textured coating or a flue route that is not viable.

Our process

## How We Carry Out the Work, Step by Step

- 1
### Step 1: Survey before quoting
A proper installer visits the property, checks the gas supply size, meter position, flue route options, water pressure and flow rate, and the condition of existing pipework and radiators before recommending a boiler.

- 2
### Step 2: Written specification and fixed price
You should receive, in writing, the exact boiler make and model, what is included (filter, inhibitor, flue kit, controls, making good) and the total fixed price, not a range that depends on what gets found on the day.

- 3
### Step 3: Installation to manufacturer instructions
The boiler, flue and controls are fitted exactly to the manufacturer's installation instructions, not adapted to save time, because deviating from those instructions is one of the most common reasons warranty claims are refused.

- 4
### Step 4: Commissioning and Benchmark paperwork
The boiler is commissioned with combustion readings taken and recorded, and the Benchmark checklist inside the boiler's user manual is completed and signed, which manufacturers require to validate the warranty.

- 5
### Step 5: Notification, registration and handover
The installer notifies the work under the relevant Competent Person Scheme, provides your Building Regulations compliance certificate, registers the manufacturer warranty, and hands over all the documents together, not as an afterthought if you chase.

What you get

## The Difference It Makes

### A warranty that actually holds up
Correct commissioning, filter fitting and registration are exactly what a manufacturer checks before honouring a claim, so doing them properly at installation protects the whole warranty period.

### One fixed price agreed before work starts
The number in the written quote is the number on the invoice, with no day-rate creep or surprise extras once the old boiler is off the wall.

### Gas Safe registered and legally notifiable
Work is registered no. 576059, notified correctly, and documented, which matters to your insurer, your mortgage lender and any future buyer of the property.

### A boiler sized to your actual home
Surveying gas supply, water pressure and hot water demand before recommending a model means you are not paying for output you do not need, or living with one that cannot keep up.

### Full Benchmark and compliance paperwork on the day
You leave the installation with the commissioning record, gas safety documentation and Building Regulations certificate in hand, not chasing them by email weeks later.

### A FREE Gas Safety Certificate with every new boiler installation
Every installation includes a Gas Safety Certificate for the new appliance at no extra charge, so you have documented proof of safe installation from day one.

In detail

## What to Look For in a Boiler Installer
Ask any installer, before you agree to anything, to explain how they arrived at the boiler size they are recommending. There is no single correct answer for every house, but there should be a clear method: number of radiators, approximate heat loss, number of bathrooms and whether hot water is needed at more than one outlet simultaneously. An installer who quotes a specific kilowatt output without asking about your hot water usage patterns is guessing, and guessing on boiler size either leaves you cold in January or paying for capacity you never use.

Get the quote in writing and read what is not included as carefully as what is. A genuinely competitive quote and a cheap one that grows during the job often start out looking identical on the headline figure. The difference is usually in the small print: is the magnetic filter included, is the system cleanse included, is a new flue kit included if the old one does not meet current clearance distances, is making good after floor or wall access included. Fixed written prices exist precisely so those questions get answered before, not during, the job.

Benchmark is the industry-standard commissioning checklist that comes inside every new boiler's user manual, and manufacturers use it, alongside proof of Gas Safe registration and the installation date, to decide whether a warranty claim is valid. An installer who does not complete it, or completes it without actually taking the readings it asks for, is leaving you with a warranty that looks intact on paper but is not, because the documented evidence a manufacturer needs simply is not there. Ask to see the completed Benchmark record before the installer leaves, not after you ring up with a fault.

Warranty registration is a separate step from Benchmark and it is easy for it to be forgotten in the rush to finish a job and move to the next one. Manufacturers generally require registration within a set period after installation, often thirty days, to activate the full warranty term rather than a shorter default period. A good installer registers it as part of the handover and can tell you, there and then, that it is done, rather than leaving it to you to find the paperwork and do it yourself weeks later when the installer has moved on to other jobs.

### Residential and commercial properties
We install boilers in houses, flats, HMOs and small commercial premises across Merseyside. Whatever type of property you have, the same standard applies: written survey, written price, manufacturer-instruction installation, and full paperwork handed over on completion.

Questions

## Boiler Installer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if a boiler installer is properly qualified?Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card and check the registration number, which you can verify on the Gas Safe Register. Ours is 576059. It is a criminal offence for anyone not on the register to carry out gas work.

Why do prices vary so much between installers?Genuine variation comes from boiler brand and size, pipework and flue work needed, and what is included such as filters, inhibitor and making good. Get a full written specification from each installer so you are comparing like for like, not just a headline number.

What is Benchmark and why does it matter?Benchmark is the commissioning checklist inside a new boiler's user manual. Manufacturers use it, along with proof of registration, to decide whether a warranty claim is valid, so a properly completed Benchmark record protects your warranty.

Do I need to register the boiler warranty myself?A good installer registers it for you as part of the handover, usually within the manufacturer's required window after installation. We register the warranty on every installation we complete.

Will the notification and certificate be provided automatically?Yes, on a properly run job. Notification under the relevant Competent Person Scheme and the Building Regulations compliance certificate should be handled by the installer and given to you without you needing to chase.

Is the cheapest quote usually the best value? Not necessarily. Check what is included before comparing figures. Missing filters, missing cleanse, or a boiler undersized for the property can turn a cheap quote into a more expensive one within a few years.

How much does a new boiler installation cost in Liverpool?New boilers are fully fitted from £1,299. The exact price depends on the model, pipework and any flue changes needed, and we always confirm the total fixed price in writing before starting.

Which areas do you install boilers in?Across Liverpool, Knowsley, Halton and St Helens. We answer the phone seven days a week, 8:30am to 5:30pm, and can usually tell you the same day whether we can fit you in.

Still not sure? Send us the details or ring 07523 738285.
