Overview

What This Service Is, and Who It Is For

What it is

An emergency boiler repair covers the situations that cannot wait for a routine appointment: total loss of heat in cold weather, no hot water at all, a persistent lockout the reset button will not clear, a burning smell, unusual banging, or water visibly leaking from the boiler casing or pipework. The first job on any of these is to make the situation safe, then diagnose the actual fault rather than swapping parts on a guess.

Who it is for

Anyone with no heat or no hot water, especially households with young children, elderly residents or anyone with a health condition affected by cold, and landlords with a tenant reporting a total heating or hot water failure, which carries a repair obligation with a timescale attached to it.

When you need it

Call as soon as the boiler stops working properly rather than waiting to see if it fixes itself. A boiler that has locked out once will often lock out again, and a small leak or an intermittent fault left running can turn into a bigger repair, or an unsafe one, within days.

Why it needs a registered engineer

Gas appliances that are leaking, smelling of gas, or showing signs of incomplete combustion (staining, a lazy yellow flame, soot marks) are a safety issue, not just a comfort one, and diagnosing and repairing them is legally restricted to Gas Safe registered engineers. Correct diagnosis also matters for cost: the same symptom can have several different causes, and finding the actual fault first avoids paying for parts that were never the problem.

The cost of leaving it

What Happens If This Gets Left

A boiler emergency is stressful precisely because it is disruptive and because getting it wrong, either by ignoring a warning sign or by letting an untrained person near a gas appliance, makes things worse.

Risks and escalating costs

  • Ignoring a persistent lockout and repeatedly resetting the boiler can mask a fault that is getting worse, turning a component repair into a heat exchanger or PCB replacement.
  • A boiler that smells of gas, or shows signs of a blocked or damaged flue, is a genuine safety hazard and needs the gas supply isolated immediately, not investigated by trial and error.
  • Leaving a leak unaddressed drops system pressure repeatedly, which draws in fresh oxygenated water and accelerates internal corrosion of radiators and pipework.
  • A frozen condensate pipe, common in cold snaps on external pipe runs, causes the boiler to lock out completely and is frequently mistaken for a more serious fault when it can sometimes be resolved quickly and safely.
  • For landlords, an unaddressed heating or hot water failure in winter is a habitability and compliance issue, not a job that can sit on a list.

Mistakes we are called out to fix

  • Repeatedly pressing reset without knowing what caused the lockout in the first place, which can hide a fault that needs proper attention.
  • Attempting to open the boiler casing or interfere with gas or electrical connections without training; this is both dangerous and, for gas components, against the law for anyone not Gas Safe registered.
  • Ignoring a smell of gas because it is faint, rather than isolating the supply and calling the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately.
  • Continuing to top up system pressure through the filling loop every few days instead of getting the underlying leak found and fixed.
  • Paying for a repair on a boiler that is already at the end of its practical life without first asking whether a replacement makes more financial sense.

Our process

How We Carry Out the Work, Step by Step

  1. 1

Step 1: Call and initial safety check

You call 07523 738285 or 0151 384 5908 and talk to us directly. We ask what the boiler is doing, any error codes shown, and whether you can smell gas, so we know what we are dealing with before an engineer arrives.

  2. 2

Step 2: What we ask you to check first

Where it is safe to do so: system pressure on the gauge, whether the room thermostat is calling for heat, whether the condensate pipe outside is visibly frozen, and whether the fault is on the electricity supply to the boiler rather than the boiler itself.

  3. 3

    Step 3: Diagnosis on site

The engineer checks fault history and lockout codes, tests the pump, valves, thermistors and PCB as needed, and confirms the actual cause rather than assuming it from the symptom alone.

  4. 4

Step 4: Fixed price before work starts

Once the fault is confirmed, you get the repair price in writing before any work is carried out, so there are no surprises once the casing is off.

  5. 5

Step 5: Repair, test and safety documentation

The fault is repaired, the system is tested under normal operating pressure, and combustion is checked to confirm the boiler is running safely before the engineer leaves.

What you get

The Difference It Makes

You speak to us directly

Call 07523 738285 or 0151 384 5908 and talk to someone who can tell you what to check safely and what your options are, not an automated queue.

Open every day of the week

We are open 8:30am to 5:30pm, seven days a week, including weekends, when a lot of boiler faults choose to happen.

Correct diagnosis, not guesswork

Fault history, lockout codes and component testing before any part is replaced, so you are not paying to find the fault by trial and error.

Fixed price before any work begins

Once the fault is confirmed, the repair price is agreed in writing before the engineer starts, whatever time of day the call came in.

Gas Safe registered, no exceptions

Every engineer working on your boiler is Gas Safe registered, number 576059, which is a legal requirement for any work on the gas side of the appliance.

Honest advice on repair versus replace

If a boiler is old enough that the repair cost does not make sense against a new boiler fully fitted from £1,299, we will say so plainly.

In detail

Boiler Breakdowns: Common Faults and What They Mean

No heat and no hot water together, on a combi, most often points to a diverter valve fault, a failed pump, or a PCB issue, since all three sit at the point where the boiler decides where to send its heat. No heat but hot water still works, or the reverse, narrows things down considerably: it usually means the fault is downstream of the shared components, in a motorised valve, a room thermostat, or the wiring centre that controls zoning. Telling us which symptom you have, precisely, saves diagnostic time on the day.

Lockout codes vary by manufacturer but the categories are consistent: ignition failure (the boiler is not lighting), low water pressure, a fan or air pressure switch fault, or an overheat cut-out. A boiler that locks out once in cold weather and resets cleanly may simply have a frozen condensate pipe, a plastic pipe that runs outside carrying acidic waste water from the boiler, which freezes in sustained sub-zero conditions and blocks. This is one of the few faults a homeowner may be able to identify safely themselves by checking for visible ice in the external pipe run, though thawing it safely and confirming no other fault caused the freeze is best left to an engineer.

A genuine smell of gas is different from every other fault on this list and takes priority over all of it: turn off the gas supply at the meter if you can do so safely, do not operate any electrical switches, open windows and doors, do not use a naked flame, leave the property if the smell is strong, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately, then call us once the property is safe. This is genuinely urgent in a way a cold radiator is not.

Not every fault is worth repairing. A heat exchanger failure, a second major component failure within a couple of years, or a boiler that is already well past the age where parts are readily available, are all situations where the repair cost starts to approach or exceed a sensible chunk of a new boiler's fitted price. We will tell you honestly when that point has been reached rather than repairing a boiler indefinitely piece by piece.

Residential and commercial properties

We repair boilers in houses, flats and rental properties across Liverpool, Knowsley, Halton and St Helens. For landlords, we can liaise directly with tenants to arrange access and confirm the outcome with you the same day, and issue paperwork by email straight after the visit.

Variations of this service

  • No heat and no hot water

Total system failure, most often a diverter valve, pump or PCB fault on a combi, diagnosed by testing each component rather than guessing.

  • Persistent lockout or error code

The boiler will not stay running after a reset. We read the fault history and lockout code to find the actual cause rather than resetting repeatedly.

  • Leaking or dripping boiler

Water at the base of the casing or on visible pipework, checked to find the source, whether an internal seal, a pressure relief valve or a pipe joint.

  • Smell of gas or suspected unsafe operation

Treated as a priority safety matter: isolate, ventilate, call the National Gas Emergency Service if the smell is strong, then have the appliance inspected before it is used again.

Materials, parts and equipment

  • Genuine manufacturer replacement parts for Vaillant, Worcester Bosch, Baxi, Heatline and Main boilers
  • Pressure gauges and manometers for combustion and flow testing
  • Diagnostic tools for reading fault history and lockout codes
  • Replacement pumps, diverter valves, PCBs and thermistors as required
  • Pipe insulation for external condensate pipe runs to reduce future freezing

Questions

Emergency Boiler Repair: Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer 24-hour emergency boiler repair in Liverpool?

We are open 8:30am to 5:30pm, seven days a week, including weekends. We answer the phone seven days a week, 8:30am to 5:30pm, and we tell you the same day whether we can get to you. Call us during those hours and we will tell you the same day whether we can get to you.

My boiler has locked out and reset isn't working, what should I do?

Check the pressure gauge first: if pressure is low, that may explain the lockout and can sometimes be corrected safely via the filling loop if you know how. If pressure is normal and reset still fails, stop trying repeatedly and call us so we can read the fault history properly.

I can smell gas, what do I do?

Turn off the gas at the meter if it is safe to do so, do not use electrical switches or naked flames, open windows and doors, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately. Call us once the property has been made safe.

How much does an emergency boiler repair cost?

It depends on the fault. We diagnose the actual cause first and give you the repair price in writing before any work is carried out, so you know the cost before you commit.

My condensate pipe has frozen, is that serious?

It is a common cause of lockouts in cold weather and is not usually a sign of a deeper fault, but confirming that and thawing the pipe safely is best done by an engineer, particularly if it recurs, since repeated freezing can point to poor pipe routing or insulation.

Is it worth repairing an old boiler or should I replace it?

It depends on the boiler's age, the fault, and parts availability. If a repair cost is approaching a significant proportion of a new boiler's fitted price, which starts from £1,299, we will tell you plainly so you can make an informed decision.

Can I try to fix the boiler myself?

Anything involving the gas components, the flue, or the internal workings of the appliance is legally restricted to Gas Safe registered engineers. Checking the pressure gauge, the thermostat setting and visible external condensate pipework for ice is generally safe for you to look at yourself.

Do you cover emergencies across all of Merseyside?

Yes, across Liverpool, Knowsley, Halton and St Helens, including Huyton, Prescot, Widnes, Runcorn, Crosby, Woolton and Newton-le-Willows. We answer the phone seven days a week, 8:30am to 5:30pm, and we tell you the same day whether we can get to you.
